Common questions
When is Orthodox Easter 2027?
Orthodox Easter (Pascha) 2027 is on Sunday, May 2, 2027. Western Easter that year is on March 28.
Why is Orthodox Easter on a different date?
The Orthodox Church calculates Pascha with the Julian calendar and the ancient rule that it follows the Jewish Passover. Western churches use the Gregorian calendar, so the two dates coincide only in some years and otherwise differ by one to five weeks.
Do Old and New Calendar churches celebrate Pascha on the same day?
Yes. Almost all Orthodox churches — New and Old Calendar alike — celebrate Pascha on the same day. The calendars differ only for the fixed feasts, such as Christmas.
